02:14 pm - Plans (not for a dinghy, though) ( SCAdian stuff: )
Also, if people near Massachusetts aren't doing anything this Saturday, The Garden in the Woods (http://www.newfs.org/garden.htm) is free on that day, to celebrate Earth Day. It is a wonderful way to spend time with your children! Unfortunately, I'll have to miss this year, because we'll be at NEFFA (http://www.neffa.org/), so someone *has* to go and enjoy the flowers on my behalf.

10:37 pm - Book thoughts I just finished a book, and I found the ending quite disturbing.
I was hoping that I could get some thoughts from my LJ friends about it. ( If you don't want spoilers for 'The Age of Innocence' )

09:43 pm - Season goodness
Oh Great Cthulhu!I have been an extremely industrious devotee this year. In March, I wore an Elder Sign (-10 points). In April, I prepared an ocean voyage to R'lyeh (200 points). When the stars were right, I defiled the grave of that traitor, Lovecraft (90 points). Yesterday, I visited my relatives in Innsmouth (100 points). In July, I fed jenphalian to a Shoggoth (250 points). In September, I exposed cvirtue to soul-rending horrors (250 points). In short, I have been very good (880 points) and deserve to be eaten first. Your humble and obedient servant, Eclectic_1

02:34 pm - Relationships "Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous; it does not put on airs; it is not snobbish. Love is never rude; it is not self-seeking; it is not prone to anger; neither does it brood over injuries. Love does not rejoice in what is wrong but rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to love's forbearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure. Love never fails" (1 Cor 13:4-8)
There is an excellent model for relationships that I heard at a wedding. Love is like a bank account. If you want to be rich, you've got to put in more than you spend. You put into the relationship with kind words, gentle touching, doing things that make the other person happy. You spend by being mean, resentful, playing tit-for-tat, and by being demanding.
Everybody's relationship would be easier if the other person gave more. You've got to think about what *you* can do to improve things. But a relationship where one person always gives and the other always takes is not sustainable. The giver is going to burn out eventually. Really think about how much you give and get in a relationship. And think about how much the other person gives/gets from their point of view. If you can meet in the middle, it can work. If not, it's not going to happen.

06:00 pm - Johan, the rememberance If this doesn't apply to you, feel free to ignore it.
Someone on my flist suggested having a get together so people who knew Johan could have a time to reminisce (OK, tell no s***, there we were stories), and a time to actually meet one another.
Which do you think would be more appropriate: A party in New Hampshire A party in Boston An SCA event as a tribute: a sopping wet event whose main activities will be flirting, gaming, and smoozing. Maybe make it an Alfwine/Johan memorial event & throw in fighting? Any other thoughts?

04:19 pm - For my friend, Johan I can't say much yet, but yesterday I lost a dear friend, mentor, and colleague.
About two weeks ago, he was on a construction site when a railing gave way and he fell 20 feet onto a pile of gravel. He sounded like he was on his way to recovery when I got the word yesterday that he had passed away.
There are not many people in this world that I can completely say that I look up to. He was one of them. He was one of the most honorable and honest man that I have ever met.
How much does it say that a person has influenced your life when you have to tell your mother, brother, sister-in-law, cousin, husband's best friend, your friends, your co-workers, your Barony, and a neighboring Barony of his passing? In a way, I feel incredibly lucky to have been friends with him and his wife.
And that's the part that really kills me, that he left a wonderful wife and two young boys behind. Two boys who are only about a year or so older than my girls.
And in these days When darkness falls early And people rush home To the ones they love You better take a fool's advice And take care of your own One day they're here; Next day they're gone Current Mood: sad Current Music: iPod list - Spiritual
